WHO are the STONERS?

The Greater Pittston Stoners Youth Soccer Association is a collection of nearly 900 kids and 200 adult volunteers playing along with 12 other youth soccer groups in the Wyoming Valley Youth Soccer League.

WHAT are the STONERS?

The Stoners are a youth soccer organization, named after the Pennsylvania Keystoners of the old professional soccer league.

WHERE are the STONERS?

The Stoners are located in and around the City of Pittston, County of Luzerne, in the State of Pennsylvania. To make it easy, we are in the northeast part of the state, midway between the cities of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre.

WHY are the STONERS?

The Stoners exist because a few far sighted individuals saw the need for youth soccer in the area. From their humble beginnings of a few teams the organization has developed into a thriving group of 72 teams (in 2001). We are growing faster than anyone had expected and continue at a record breaking pace.

In around early 1980 a group of individuals got together in order to form a youth soccer organization in the Greater Pittston area. They saw the need for such an organization and knew it could compete in the newly formed Wyoming Valley Youth Soccer League. Their task was a true challenge. Where would they play? There were no soccer fields in the Greater Pittston area. Who would they play? Were there really that many kids interested in soccer, from an area dominated by football programs? Well, They found a place to play and started with two teams, each with kids ranging from 8 to 16 years old. Then, as the popularity of soccer grew across the country, the popularity of soccer grew here, and we became one of the largest organizations in the Wyoming Valley Youth Soccer League
